Facebook began 20 years ago as a social media platform for college students.  Today, platform is challenged by a significant shift in users.   It has evolved to be the social platform for boomers.

In recent analysis, Facebook reports that 71% of their user base is now 50 years and older.  Only 33% of usage is happening with teens.  Obviously, this creates an urgent need for a new strategy that will re-engage younger users

Social Media has evolved to be so much more than a communication tool.  The ability to create has taken on a great deal of momentum.  This “creator” mentality has fueled the growth of Tik Tok and You Tube.  Additionally, the sensitivity to keeping things private is also heightened.  This has led to popularity for platforms like Snap-Chat because the post is temporary vs. sitting on a facebook feed forevermore.

Facebook’s newly crafted strategy designed to bring youth back to the platform includes cold-hard cash.  They are launching an opportunity for creators to get paid for their posts.  The hope is that the ability to monetize their creativity will bring them back to the platform.
